Atletico Madrid reportedly prefer Alvarez to join Arsenal over Barcelona

Alvarez’s Future at Atletico Madrid
The future of Julián Alvarez, the former Manchester City forward, has been a prominent topic throughout the summer transfer window. While Alvarez is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona, his current club, Atletico Madrid, is said to be hesitant about selling a key player to a direct domestic rival. Reports indicate that Atletico Madrid would prefer Alvarez to join Arsenal instead of Barcelona.
This preference from Atletico Madrid could provide Arsenal with a significant advantage in their pursuit of the player. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal‘s coach, has reportedly been making efforts to persuade Alvarez to move to north London. It was reported earlier in the week that Arteta personally contacted Alvarez to discuss a summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium, aiming to convince him that such a move would be beneficial for his career progression.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Atletico Madrid has publicly maintained that Alvarez will remain with the club. Both Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone and chief executive Miguel Angel Gil have stated this summer that Alvarez is staying. Simeone, when questioned, referred to the club owner’s categorical statements, suggesting there was nothing further to add on the matter.
Transfer Dynamics and Player Preferences
Alvarez is reportedly not in a suitable condition to play amidst the transfer speculation surrounding him. This situation has reportedly led Atletico Madrid to consider a move to Arsenal as a more acceptable option than a transfer to La Liga rivals Barcelona. This information, according to one report, could give Arsenal an important edge.
However, Alvarez’s preferred destination remains Barcelona. The Catalan club, on the other hand, is said to have shifted its attention to Arsenal‘s forward, Viktor Gyokeres. One report from last week claimed that Barcelona was planning a move for the Swedish international after reportedly giving up on their pursuit of Alvarez.
Previously, Arsenal had shown interest in Alvarez, considering a move last summer before ultimately signing Gyokeres. It is suggested that Gyokeres could now be a crucial factor in Alvarez’s potential transfer to the Emirates Stadium, if various reports are accurate. Despite these developments, Arsenal is not currently pursuing a deal for Alvarez, according to one understanding, given Atletico Madrid‘s public stance.
Other Transfer Market Activities
The transfer market remains active with other clubs also making moves. Newcastle, for instance, is reportedly looking for new players after some departures earlier in the summer. They have been linked with RB Leipzig midfielder Nicolas Seiwald, an Austria international who previously played under Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg.
Manchester United, having reportedly fended off attempts from Newcastle to acquire Lewis Hall, is still in search of a left-back. Joaquin Seys, from Club Brugge, is reportedly high on their list. Additionally, Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó is a potential target for Manchester United, with Barcelona reportedly willing to let him go after agreeing a deal for Rodri.
Liverpool, after engaging with Bradley Barcola throughout the summer, is now reportedly interested in another Paris Saint-Germain winger, Ibrahim Mbaye. A combined fee of £155m has been mentioned for both players. Manchester United is also considered a potential suitor for Mbaye, among other clubs.
In the Championship, Blackburn goalkeeper Balazs Toth, valued at £4m, is reportedly wanted by Celtic as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel. Meanwhile, Rangers are expected to finalize the transfer of Aston Villa defender Kosta Nedeljkovic and are also looking to add Kevin Kelsy, a striker for Venezuela and Portland Timbers. Leeds has also been active, showing interest in Nelson Deossa from Real Betis and Igor Paixão from Marseille, though Paixão could be tempted by offers from the Saudi Pro League. Another possibility for Leeds is Zian Flemming from Burnley, who could cost nearly £20m, as they aim to replace Joël Piroe.
The transfer window continues to see various movements and speculation across different leagues, with clubs aiming to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season. Atletico Madrid‘s preference for Arsenal over Barcelona for Alvarez highlights the complex dynamics of player transfers between rival clubs.
