Dastan Satpayev joins Chelsea, seals loan move to Burnley

Satpayev’s Chelsea Transfer and Loan to Burnley
Dastan Satpayev, a Kazakhstan international, has officially completed his transfer to Chelsea from FC Kairat. Following his move, the forward has immediately joined Championship side Burnley on a season-long loan for the upcoming campaign. Satpayev signed a contract with Chelsea that extends until 2033.
The loan move to Turf Moor will see Satpayev spend the 2026/27 season with Burnley. This development comes shortly after he was formally introduced as a Stamford Bridge player. The transfer to Chelsea was pre-agreed in January 2025, with an initial agreement made in February 2025, for a reported fee of £3.4m from Kairat FC. This fee represented the most expensive export in the history of the Kazakhstan Premier League.
Satpayev was part of Chelsea’s travelling squad for their summer tour of Australia and Asia. During this tour, he participated in four of the team’s fixtures and scored a goal in their victory against Western Sydney Wanderers. Reports indicate that the loan deal with Burnley does not include a buy option, meaning Satpayev is expected to return to West London in June 2027.
Career Background and International Recognition
Satpayev, who is capable of playing across the attack, spent his formative years with Kairat. He made his first-team debut for the club at the age of 15 in May 2024. Throughout his time at Kairat, he accumulated 58 first-team appearances, which included participation in the UEFA Champions League, and scored 26 goals.
His performances for Kairat led to his senior international recognition for Kazakhstan in March 2025. He became Kazakhstan’s youngest ever debutant at 16 years, seven months and ten days. Since then, he has made eight appearances for his country.
Satpayev scored his first goal for Kazakhstan in November 2025 during a 1-1 draw against Belgium. This achievement made him the youngest player, at 17 years, three months and three days, to score for his country. His 18th birthday was celebrated just two days before he signed his six-year deal with Chelsea, which also includes an option for an additional 12 months.
Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s head coach, has praised Satpayev, having encountered him during his previous role at Real Madrid and also knowing him from Almaty. Alonso described the Kazakh player as a constant threat at goal, noting his ability to attack the inner channel cleverly and thrive when moving centrally from wider positions. The head coach also mentioned that no definitive decision had been made regarding the player’s immediate trajectory at that point.
Satpayev’s profile has drawn comparisons to players such as Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Aguero. If he eventually makes the step up to Chelsea’s senior team, he would be the first Kazakh player to feature in a Premier League game. Burnley, having been relegated from the top flight last season, is expected to provide the regular playing time necessary for his development, and he has already completed a medical at Turf Moor.
The loan move for Satpayev is one of several involving Chelsea this week, with Ryan Kavuma-McQueen joining Portsmouth, Reggie Walsh moving to Wigan Athletic, and Shim Mheuka also reportedly nearing a move away. Chelsea has expressed good wishes to Dastan for the upcoming season and looks forward to monitoring his development.

Satpayev expressed his satisfaction with the move, stating it is a significant opportunity for his career and a chance to demonstrate his abilities at a club aiming to return to its previous standing. He also noted that this marks his first time playing in England and he is prepared for this new chapter with Burnley.
