Mykhailo Mudryk’s Chelsea future uncertain amid loan interest and behavioral shift

Mudryk’s Return to Play and Shifting Demeanour
Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukraine winger for Chelsea, has recently returned to play after a suspension related to a doping case. His return has been marked by appearances in friendly matches against Juventus, Milan, and Johor. During these matches, Mudryk accumulated 16 minutes on the pitch, with his last official game dating back to November 2024. His temporary suspension, which initially carried a four-year ban from professional play and training, was lifted, allowing him to officially return to Chelsea on August 3.
Following the lifting of his suspension, Mudryk joined Chelsea’s training camp in Hong Kong. Club staff observed a notable change in his behaviour. Previously described as reserved, Mudryk reportedly appeared smiling and open, engaging extensively with staff members and offering hugs. This shift was evident during preseason preparations in Hong Kong, where he interacted with many club employees.
An instance highlighting the positive reception of his return occurred during the friendly against Juventus. Forward Nicolas Jackson reportedly arranged with manager Xabi Alonso to be substituted towards the end of the match, despite having only recently entered the game himself, to allow Mudryk to play his first match for Chelsea in 21 months.
Loan Prospects and Club Interest
Despite his return, Mudryk’s future at Chelsea appears to be at a crossroads. Chelsea is reportedly open to sanctioning a loan move for the 25-year-old winger. Manager Xabi Alonso is looking to streamline the squad and make changes upfront, with a focus on reshuffling options for the new season. The club hopes a loan to a European club would provide Mudryk with regular playing time, helping him regain fitness and form after his extended absence.
Several clubs have shown interest in securing Mudryk’s services. Coventry City, a newly promoted Championship side, is among the clubs reportedly interested in a loan deal. Reports also suggest that a move to Strasbourg in France has gained momentum, with Chelsea’s financial support potentially facilitating a switch to Ligue 1. This move could offer Mudryk an environment to rediscover his form and secure consistent minutes.
However, reports indicate differing preferences for Mudryk’s next destination. While a move to Strasbourg is being considered, some reports suggest Mudryk would prefer to remain in England and join another Premier League club. Clubs in Italy are also reportedly keen on the winger, leaving his future open during the current transfer window. Chelsea remains optimistic about Mudryk’s long-term potential, partly due to his contract running until 2031.
Other Transfer Speculations
In other transfer news, Barcelona is reportedly pursuing Manchester City midfielder Rodri, having lodged a second bid worth £51.3m for the 30-year-old Spain international. Inter Milan is in discussions with Tottenham regarding a deal for England right-back Djed Spence, valued at 30m euros (£25.6m). The 26-year-old is reportedly eager to join the Serie A champions.
Manchester United is prioritising the signing of Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall, with the 21-year-old England international also favouring a move to Old Trafford. Additionally, Manchester United is considering an initial bid for Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys, who is valued at £30m. The club also made a move for Real Madrid and Brazil forward Endrick on loan, but manager Jose Mourinho intends to keep the 20-year-old at the Spanish side beyond the summer.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been presented with an opportunity to sign England midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly. Arsenal might be inclined to sell the 19-year-old following the arrival of Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes, 28, from Newcastle. Napoli is exploring a deal for Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus, but Arsenal would only consider selling the 29-year-old if offers start at 20m euros.
Iliman Ndiaye, the Everton and Senegal winger, 26, has reportedly declined an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, indicating a desire to continue playing in the Premier League. Everton is actively seeking to sign a right-back within the next seven to 10 days, with targets including Celtic and Canada’s Alistair Johnston, 27, West Ham and DR Congo’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 28, and Genoa’s 22-year-old Englishman Brooke Norton-Cuffy. Finally, Crystal Palace’s English centre-back Mofe Jemide, 19, is reportedly nearing a move to Alverca in Portugal’s top division.
